Better transmission for top-range Deutz
Better transmission for top-range Deutz
DEUTZ is the latest tractor company to offer a stepless transmission for its top-end tractor range joining the ranks of Case, Steyr, Fendt, Claas and John Deere.
Designated TTV and made by ZF, it comprises four packs of planetary gears, governed by a computer-controlled hydrostatic power unit via a load sensing pump.
The main benefit over a mechanical transmission is no drop in engine speed when a change in power or speed is selected, says a company spokesman. A continuous drive exists throughout the whole speed range, but unlike hydrostatic transmissions, the hydrostatic share reaches a maximum of only 35%.
The operator can select auto mode, using the throttle to control engine and forward speed, or manual operation using a joystick control. Pushing the lever forward increases speed, backwards reduces it. Forward and reverse is selected by a button.
A key advantage of the new transmission is realised where tractor speed needs to be constantly changed and finely tuned on the move, such as potato harvesting. It also ensures the engine can always be set at its most efficient operating speed for fuel consumption.
The transmission, which has a price premium of about £4300, will be available from next March for the 125hp 1130; 140hp 1145 and 150hp 1160 Agrotron models. *
Stepless transmission for higher-powered Deutz tractors comes on stream next March. See p60 for all the big machinery launches at the RAI event.
