BURGER giant McDonalds is in frantic negotiations with suppliers to source extra supplies of British beef after running out of Big Macs during a special promotion.

A two-for-one Big Mac offer advertised on television over the past few days created huge dem-and and many of the companys outlets soon ran out of supplies.

McDonalds was forced to apologise to disappointed customers through national newspapers.

The burger chain, which usually sells about 500,000 Big Macs every weekend, expected the promotional offer to boost sales fourfold. But demand was eight times greater than usual and managers at many outlets were left red-faced when supplies ran out.

A spokesman for McDonalds, which sold more than 4 million burgers in two days, said the company was in the process of securing extra supplies as soon as possible. "Whichever way you look at it, its a tremendous amount of beef," he said. &#42
