BULLS with "big tops and big ends" were in demand at Carlisle last week when the British Charo-lais Cattle Society saw 92 head average £2450, up £168 on the year.
The days highlight was a 10,000gns bid for a cow and calf from the Tusmore herd dispersal.
Bull trade was selective and fewer were sold than last year, but sires with power and shape met a strong trade, reaching 6100gns for John Curries junior male champion Tullygarley Muscleman.
From his herd in Co Antrim, this Oldstone Egbert son weighed 650kg at 300 days. Buyers were R A and M D Butler, who run the Murrays herd at Newbury.
A son of Allanfauld Vagabond stood reserve supreme champion. Allanfauld Lionheart from A Macgregor, Glasgow, made 6000gns to W E Parsons, Isle of Man.
Billy Turners Brampton Ace son Brampton Mauritious was reserve junior champion and also made 6000gns heading for Co Antrim with Vick Chestnut.
Show judge, Jim Goldie, backed his verdict when he gave 4500gns for the Macgregors supreme champion Allanfauld Moses, a son of Simpsons Gregg.
The Tusmore herd dispersal for Tusmore Park Farms, Bicester, produced some intense bidding for Lowesby Infanta, the young Maerdy Eagle cow that stood second at last years Royal Show.
Offered with a January-born heifer calf by Heaton Highway, she was taken by Cyril Smith, Grimsby.
