Black-and-white merger gets thumbs up

WIDESPREAD support for a merger between the UKs two-black-and-white cattle breed societies emerged during the first meeting to assess breeders reactions to the proposal.
But while the 150 breeders who gathered at Reaseheath College, Cheshire, agreed with the theory of a merger – many feared the practicalities of achieving a single breed society would prove a big stumbling block.
The meeting, organised by the Mid West Holstein Breeders Club and the North West Holstein Friesian Breeders Club, presented a platform for Holstein and Holstein Friesian viewpoints alongside those of Holstein 2000 – a prime mover in proposals to set up a new society.
