Bodfari meeting over price cuts
MILK producers supplying Bodfari – now owned by Meadow Foods – held a meeting with the company on Wednesday in Chester to discuss its milk price cut of 1.9p/litre backdated to July 1.
The company has been facing growing pressure from producers.
Wirral dairy farmer Don Tyson, who milks 225 cows at Brimstage, is currently receiving 15p/litre.
"The agreement that we had with Bodfari included a guaranteed price based on the average of the top four milk buyers in the league tables approved by Promar.
That no longer exists and yet we have never been told officially that it has been rescinded. We cannot carry on in a position of complete price freefall."
Mark Tripney, farm manager with the Wirral-based Leverhulme Estate which milks over 480 cows, said the price threatened to slash over £112,000 off the estates milk income. *
