Boy in narrow escape from harvester

By FWi staff

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy narrowly avoided being killed after hiding in a field while it was harvested.

The National Farmers Union issued a warning to parents after the near tragedy which happened on a Yorkshire farm.

A 10t combine harvester passed within a few feet of the boy as it harvested a field of barley and the youngster was only just able to get out of harms way.

Parents must ensure their children do not play in agricultural fields, particularly during harvest, said an NFU spokesman.

This incident demonstrates how dangerous harvest can be, particularly for children, said the spokesman.

If it wasnt for a bit of luck we could easily have been mourning the loss of a young boy.
