Britain threatens to quit FAO
THE government has warned it will quit the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in two years unless there is an immediate reform of the organisations strategy and management.
The organisations director-general was criticised for his “autocratic management style”.
The FAO, which has a biennial budget of US$650 million (£401m), is broadly committed to improving the production and distribution of food around the world and improving rural conditions.
The UK is the organisations fifth largest contributor.
