Britain urges progress on CAP reform

AGRICULTURE minister Dr Jack Cunningham will tell the European Union (EU) Agricultural Council of Ministers in Brussels today to press ahead with Common Agricultural Policy reform.

This is despite complaints from farmers, landowners and conservationists that they will do more harm than good.

He will say that it would be economically impossible to allow eastern European countries to joint the EU at current rates of spending on farm production subsidies and guaranteed prices.
