A SUB-GROUP of the governments Veterinary Products Committee has been established to review the latest scientific information on the safety of the milk boosting hormone BST.

Chaired by Karl Linklater, the group will report to the VPC in the summer. The VPC will then report the findings to farm and health ministers to help them establish the UK position when the EU moratorium on BST, which expires at the end of the year, is discussed in Brussels.

Recent reports from scientists in Canada and Brussels have shown that BST causes significant animal welfare problems.
