Call to end Carbeth Hutters’ dispute
TOMMY SHERIDAN, the leader of the Scottish Socialist Party, has called for an end to a long-running dispute between residents on a Stirlingshire estate and their landlord who wants to evict them.
Mr Sheridan, who is a member of the new Scottish parliament, sent a letter of support to around 200 protesters at the 300-acre Carbeth Estate, on the outskirts of Strathblane, as they marked the second anniversary of their eviction.
The residents, known as the Carbeth Hutters, claim the estate owner unreasonably increased rents at the tiny wooden huts and is trying to destroy their traditional way of life.
