Canadians threaten punitive measures in salmon war

The possibility of punitive measures has been raised by the Canadians after
the US and Canada failed again to set fishing quotas for Pacific north west
salmon.

The two sides are awaiting instructions from their governments on how to
proceed. There is less than one week before the first contentious salmon run is
due to reach coastal waters near Vancouver.

British Columbia premier Glen Clark said Canada should take “strong actions”
to demonstrate it was prepared to protect its natural resources.
