Cheddar heist

Cheddar heist

MORE than half a tonne of mature cheddar cheese, worth about £30,000, was stolen from Somerset farmer James Montgomerys cold stores, the night before the start of judging at the British Cheese Awards.

The family, which produces cheese using milk only from their own Holstein Friesian herd at North Cadbury, Wincanton, is offering a £2000 reward for information leading to the successful recovery of the cheese and prosecution of the thieves. Mr Montgomery won the championship for territorial cheese and the finest cheddar at the cheese awards both in 1996 and last year.
