Coliform scour

COLIFORM scour outbreaks are on the increase in young lambs and adequate colostrum is a vital factor in its prevention, according to Herefordshire vet Derek Stoakes.

He says that the E coli bugs are harboured in faeces and he advises thorough cleaning of lambing pens with a peroxy acetic acid/hydrogen peroxide disinfectant between use.

"Early treatment is vital to reduce losses and a sensitivity tests of bugs within the scour will enable a more specific and effective treatment," says Mr Stoakes.
