Commercial proof of herbs synergy
HERBICIDE maker BASF says it now has commercial field proof of its launch claim that picolinafen, the performance partner with pendimethalin in PicoPro, reduces the need for top up sprays against spring broad-leaved weeds and saves money.
Feed-back from distributors and advisers, and a farmer survey, show the synergy between the two actives has boosted weed control so that weeds like fumitory, ivy-leaf speedwell and cranes bill, previously "left behind" by diflufenican herbicides are no longer a potential problem, says the firms Andrew Jones.
Some growers who might otherwise have had to over-spray for cleavers have also decided they will not need to do so, he adds.
If everyone who used diflufenican treatments last autumn had switched to the new product the benefits would have been huge, he estimates. "The saving would have been well in excess of £1m – after taking all costs into account." *
