Computer combats residue problems

AVOIDING residue problems in fresh and processed product is a goal for growers, agronomists, traders, processors and retailers alike. A sophisticated new computer package aims to help minimise the problem.

Based on product approval data and the results of pesticide monitoring since 1995, the Rap-port software analyses a proposed application programme and indicates the risk of residues occurring.

At British Potato 2001, growers were interested in using Rapport to demonstrate due diligence and pre-empt crop marketing problems, says the CSLs Miles Thomas.

It is also likely to be used by supermarkets, advisers and marketing groups to dictate what can and cannot be used in production programmes.

The service will be available from late September and subscriptions will cost £750/year.
