THE MAFF/HGCA-funded Decision Support System for Arable Crops (DESSAC) will be tested on 30 farms next spring, with the Wheat Disease Manager module leading the multi-crop package.

"That model is beginning to prove pretty accurate," says David Brooks, MAFF co-ordinator of the project. Two years of validations are planned, comparing forecast disease development of mildew, yellow rust, brown rust and septoria against actual field observations.

A commercial launch is planned for 2001.
