Contractors association issues F&M warning

AS the foot-and-mouth crisis deepens, the National Association of Agricultural Contractors (NAAC) is advising its members to avoid all unnecessary visits to farms.

"Contractors provide a valuable service to farmers but, until the current situation is under control, we cannot risk spreading the disease," says NAAC livestock chairman Rob Morris.

He adds that contractors should only go onto farms if absolutely necessary, on written permission from the farmer.

"While this is a very critical situation for contractors, they are taking a professional approach, putting the essential precautions in place to prevent disease spread."
