Cornish clotted cream name saved by EU
THE designation Cornish clotted cream has won special protection by the European Union so that only clotted cream produced in Cornwall will be able to use the description.
Its addition to the list of protected products was added only after the French withdrew objections that were based on the fear that the ruling might affect cream from the Cornouailles area of Brittany.
Lord Donoghue, food industry minster, welcomed the decision. “Now nowhere else in Europe can call a product Cornish clotted cream,” he said.
