CRACKDOWN ON LABEL LISTINGS
CRACKDOWN ON LABEL LISTINGS
TOUGHER labelling laws on forage additive products will be in place from next year in compliance with MAFF guidelines.
This will ensure that manufacturers provide information on the label to help traceability, says FAAS chairman Peter Hooper.
"Its particularly important to MAFF and follows in line with its policy for more openness in feedstuff labelling. The move also anticipates EU legislation for silage additives."
The new laws, for products registered within the scheme, will be in force from November 2000 and for the subsequent silage making season in 2001.
New legislation means labels will have to include trade names and qualitative descriptions, instructions for use, storage instructions, safety regulations, best before dates – when applicable – and a lot number which tracks the product to the distributor to aid traceability.
