Farmhouse Breakfast competition winner: About Bella Hall

Bella lives with hubbie David and their three kids, William, 10, Evie, 7, and Charlie, 3.

They live at Metfield on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, where David runs the family farm, about 1500 acres of arable and they milk 200-plus cows.

The herd is one of the few remaining in this area, is on a separate site near the coast, where they also run a Maize Maze during the summer.

Before having children, Bella taught History and English at a local school. She then did the farm office work when the kids were small and more recently has concentrated on the Maize Maze, which she designs and runs each year.

The Southwold Maize Maze (which Gordon and Sarah Brown have visited) attracts about 10,000 visitors every summer.

Last year at the maze, Food and Farming was the theme and Bella organised an outdoor farmers’ market to promote local producers, with lots of information about food and its production within the maze.

“I feel strongly about the Buy British campaign because this is something that everyone could achieve whereas buying organic or local products is not always possible for everyone, worthy as they may be,” she says.

“As a family we love our house, which is always in need of something, our garden, where we have just created a vegetable garden, walking, cycling, shooting, fishing, hockey, cooking, our friends and our extended family, of which there are many, as I am one of seven and my husband one of four.”
