Large vet supply theft sparks industry alert

A brazen overnight raid on Barkers Animal Health in Somerset saw tens of thousands of pounds’ worth of veterinary medicines and equipment stolen.

Thieves broke through a double-skinned wall with a jackhammer, pointing to a professional operation. CCTV images have been released showing two balaclava-clad suspects, possibly a man and a woman.

The company is urging vigilance, especially at livestock markets where the goods may surface.

Key items taken include Vectocert, Zermasect, Taurador Injection 6x250ml multipacks – not in wide supply – and Panacur Bolus.

Barkers Animal Health have recorded details of serial and batch numbers for many of these stolen items, which could aid in identifying them.

The thieves also stole 30 pairs of Red Back Boots and two Pel energisers in the raid, which happened overnight on Sunday 6 July at Barkers’ unit, based at Lopen Business Park, in Mill Lane, Lopen, South Petherton, Somerset.

‘Unbelievably sad’

A company spokesperson said: “It was an unbelievably sad sight to come into on Monday morning. Our whole team are in disbelief that this has happened – and why.

“We appreciated the kind words of support from the farming community and suppliers to our business.”
