Dalehead pork expansion
MANCHESTER-BASED Dalehead Foods has invested £9m in a new pork processing factory aimed at increasing the companys capacity by 50%.
"Pig production in the UK has been through a tough time. This investment is an important step in rebuilding lost confidence," says Dalehead Foods managing director, John Hughes.
The new 25,000sq m factory – including the latest butchery and packaging plant – will increase throughput to 15,000 pigs a week, equivalent to 350t of pigmeat.
Pigs are bought on contract from over 80 producers in the north-east and north-west. The company is now buying more pigs on a cost-of-production basis, which will hopefully fulfil the increased throughput. *
