PIG prices should improve by about 15% this year, according to forecasts from Danish slaughter organisation, Danske Slagterier.
Production is expected to fall by 2% in Denmark, matching the decline in pig numbers throughout the EU, said head of economics, Karsten Flemin.
But that is not the only factor to consider. There is also evidence of rising consumption of pork and bacon, after last years retail price cuts.
But not everything was positive, he warned, pointing to the lower level of export refunds from July under the terms of GATT.
The effects of competing meats, especially beef and poultry, and currency fluctuations, can have a significant impact on trade flows, even in the short term.
