Defra staff in virus expenses probe

THE suspension of eighteen civil servants will not affect the work of the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, said a spokesman.
The staff, who had all worked on foot-and-mouth, were suspended from Defras office in Exeter pending a probe into expenses claims.
An internal investigation was underway but it was impossible to know whether it would take days or weeks, said the Defra spokesman.
But it was unlikely to have an impact on the running of the office. Weve got lots of staff in Exeter, he said.
No more details could be made available at this stage, the spokesman added.
