Devon challenged to diversify

DEVON farmers are being challenged to enter a prestigious award which rewards them for diversifying or starting up alternative farm enterprises.
The Devon County Agricultural Association said it had revamped its John Neason Award to take into account the agricultural crisis.
Association secretary Mervyn Hosking said large or small initiatives would be considered whether they were set up recently or some time ago.
“Farmers may have converted redundant buildings, added value to a primary product, diversified into food processing or developed farm tourism.”
The competition winner will receive 250, a certificate and a Perpetual Challenge Cup presented at next years Devon County Show.
- The competition closes on 30 November 2001. Interested applicants should call the Devon County Agricultural Association on 01392 353 710
