Double tags now
DOUBLE tagging regulations came into force this week and all cattle born from Jan 1, 1998 will now have to carry a tag in each ear.
NFU cattle traceability specialist Carol Lloyd welcomed the introduction of the rules because it was vital to provide evidence to the EU Commission that the beef industry could meet traceability requirements from the earliest possible date, she said.
"There is still a two- to three-week backlog in the processing of tag orders, but NFU has secured assurances from MAFF that it will listen to producers who continue to market cattle with a single tag, providing they have a genuine reason for doing so," she added.
