Dr Frankenstein in England’s pastures?

DR FRANKENSTEIN makes another appearance as an analogy for todays scientist working on genetically modified (GM) food, in one contributors letter to The Independent.

Another contributor expresses astonishment that some of the “best brains” in Britain have come to the “absurd conclusion” that GM food is a necessary development to address poverty and hunger in developing countries – the conclusion of a recent report by government backed scientists.

A third castigates the government for its “enthusiasm for GM food”. He says “a degree of caution, if not scepticism, would be both intelligent and politically expedient”.
