E-mail MAFF movement records now

PRODUCERS equipped with computers can now send electronic mail to MAFF via the Internet to update cattle movement records.

Livestock software company Orchid Data said that its new program meant producers could eliminate paperwork by sending e-mail to MAFFs cattle database to update records.

Company director Simon Baile said the company had been given a specification from MAFF for layout of the forms, which the ministry is also to distribute to other companies.

According to Mr Baile, producers will send the movement record by e-mail to MAFF, and will receive a reply from the ministry confirming its arrival within the next few days. "It will be up to producers to resubmit the data to MAFF if they dont receive confirmation that it has arrived."

Software will be available to producers in late autumn. Prod-ucers already using the companys software management scheme will receive a free upgrade, he said.

Updating livestock movement records via the Internet will now be possible, according to Orchid Datas company director Simon Baile.
