Easy on the spuds

A GENTLE and easy way of conveying spuds is how Dutch-maker Climax describes its 10.50E receiving hopper.

Distributed in the UK by Kverneland, the hopper comes in 2m to 2.4m widths and features a padded conveyor belt.

The machine has a 3.1m intake to accept crop directly from a tipped trailer – the potatoes accumulate on a 1.5m flat section at the front of the conveyor.

Operated by electric motors, conveyor speed is adjusted using a hydrostatic variator and gearbox.

The Climax hoppers are also equipped with seven cleaning rollers; the gap between each one can be adjusted hydraulically.

For grading, the hoppers can be linked to a pre-grading unit which, says Climax, helps to allow accurate sorting.

Gently does it, the Climax 1050E receiving hopper employs a padded conveyor to minimise damage to potatoes.

Roots 2002 provided Grimme with the chance to field test its Combistar CW1500 destoner and single bed GL32 RB two-row potato planter (Machinery, Apr 12). Due to hit dealers yards next year, the destoner is equipped with a combination of webs and separation systems.
