THE 2000gns mark was topped 18 times at the Spring Consignment sale of Holstein Friesians at Penrith last week.
The day also saw a top call of 6800gns, paid for Wiltor Inspiration Gail 2nd.
This third calver was one of 20 animals from Terry and David Jones herd near Chepstow. She was bred from the famous Jim-Mar-D Astronaut Gail family and is fourth generation Excellent. Buyers were J W Tinkler and Sons for their Lowerdene herd.
Newton Hall Farms, Skipton, N Yorks saw their Canadian cow Hallanary Raider Pearl taken at 4700gns by John Jamieson for his Frith herd in Dumfriesshire. She gave 10,000kg at 4.68% fat with her second.
AVERAGES: 76 cows, calved and served heifers £1516 and 29 maiden heifers £1505. (Norton and Brooksbank)
