Ex-laird of Eigg sues Guardian

KEITH SCHELLENBERG, the former owner of the Hebridean island of Eigg, has denied trying to force a farmer and his wife out of their farmhouse.

Mr Schellenberg is suing The Guardian over an article in July 1996 which he claims portrayed him as a playboy who used the island as his playground.

He described the suggestion he used the elderly woman as a pawn in the dispute as preposterous.

Earlier, he told the court that he had wanted the couple to move into the mothers farmhouse.
