Excellent trade in Dorset ring
SPARKLING trade for dairy cattle was welcome news for West Country farmers last week when a Dorset ringside saw commercial Holsteins reach 1600gns.
The sale was held for the Littman Family Trustees who offered 130 head at Long Bredy, Dorset. The herd averaged 7500kg at 4.07% butterfat and 3.28% protein and had a margin over concentrates of £1348.
Top call came for a cow by Bell Jeffrey that had given 8600kg and 8200kg in her first two lactations. There were six cows between 1500 and 1550gns including progeny of Rambo, Etazon Bowi and Jackpot – bulls whose daughters featured prominently throughout the sale which attracted buyers from Suffolk and Kent.
