Farm bankruptcies soar
THE Society of Practitioners in Insolvency (SPI) reports a big increase in the number of bankrupt farmers.
The SPI found that agricultural and horticultural workers accounted for a much greater proportion of personal insolvencies, up from 1.3% to 5%.
It put this down to the financial problems caused by BSE and falling crop prices.
