A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE farmer has been fined more than 8000 and banned from keeping pigs after being found guilty of cruelty.
Ian Leivers of Hillcrest Farm, Rainsworth pleaded guilty of permitting unnecessary suffering to pigs before Mansfield magistrates on Friday (28 January).

The case was triggered after a Ministry of Agriculture vet paid a surprise visit and found large numbers of dead pigs on the farm.
Magistrates heard that some pigs were in pens and being eaten by the remaining live animals. A number the pigs were sick and lame.
The court was told that Mr Leivers had been away for Christmas and had left an employee in charge of the unit.
