Farmers cannot produce good food for nothing — Princess Anne
THE Princess Royal told industry leaders that the message needs to go across to consumers that farmers cannot produce good food for nothing.
She said: “Nobody grows or produces something for nothing. They never have done.”
The Princess was speaking at a dinner to mark the South West Dairy Show at Shepton Mallett, Somerset. She urged farmers to stick together and concentrate on winning the support of consumers to help them out of their difficulties.
But while sympathising with their plight, the Princess could not resist a joke at her audiences expense. To applause, she told them: “Farmers have always been professional complainers, this is what they do”.
