Farming threatens top wildlife areas

INTENSIVE farming threatens one-third of Europes top wildlife areas and many of its most beautiful birds, claims a new report from wildlife campaigners.

Out of 1200 sites of risk, 25 are in the UK, according to a new survey released in Brussels by Birdlife International.

Among British species at risk are the skylark, golden eagle, osprey and capercaillie, reports The Daily Telegraph.

British sites said to be under threat from intensive farming include the Severn Estuary, Lough Foyle and River Foyle and Breckland Heaths and Thetford Forest.
