Few pest hot spots

HOT sunshine has so far failed to draw pests on to cereals and sugar beet in sprayable quantities, but some pulses may need treating soon.

Apart from a few hot spots, wheat blossom midge has kept a low profile, reports Hants-based ADAS entomologist Jon Oakley. Cereal aphids are not expected to cause any significant problems until next week, he adds.

Brooms Barns Alan Dewar notes marked lack of aphid activity despite recent warm weather.

But pea moth thresholds have been exceeded in some areas, says the PGROs Anthony Biddle. "And we are just starting to see Silver Y moth trap numbers going up." &#42
