Flood warning issued for East Anglia

FLOOD warnings have been issues for 53 rivers and coastal areas following prolonged heavy rainfall across East Anglia.

North-easterly winds generated North Sea surges along the Lincolnshire coast and warnings were in place for Suffolk and the Essex coastline.

River levels have risen as a result of the rainfall and the situation was worsening on the morning of Tuesday (4 April), said the Environment Agency.

Red warnings were issued near the River Kym between Tilbrook and Great Staughton in Cambridgeshire, and Alconbury and Alconbury Weston.

Further heavy rain of up to 25mm is forecast as the weather front responsible for the rain leaves the region to the South-east.
