Folding sheep deck cuts out hassle

A FOLD-AWAY sheep deck, enabling the trailer to be used for cattle without removing the deck system, is one of several features being introduced by manufacturer Ifor Williams.

"We are incorporating many new features into our trailer designs including ventilation, lighting and the new deck system. It is the biggest production change we have made since the mid- 1980s," explains a company spokesman.

The new design will enable the sheep deck to be folded and stowed away inside the trailer and the internal divisions to be carried on brackets fitted to the outside. The fold-away facility means the deck does not have to be taken out when more space is needed for cattle.

A gas strut lifting system has also been incorporated to raise the loading ramp up to the top deck.

Ramp gate extensions with exterior stowage will also be available to achieve a "race" effect and aid unloading into a field. A new electrical system provides interior lighting while deeper ventilation apertures are claimed to achieve more efficient ventilation. &#42
