Former minister warns of GM food clash
LORD CLINTON-DAVIES, trade minister until the reshuffle last July, warned that public opposition to genetically modified foods could spark a trade war between the European Union (EU) and the USA.
He called on EU Governments to attempt to address the concerns of US producers and European consumers.
Lord Clinton-Davis was speaking at a Confederation of British Industry (CBI) fringe meeting at the Labour Party conference in Blackpool.
The CBI revealed it was talking to several leading biotechnology companies about setting up a forum to promote better understanding of the issue.
