Fox unites Times and Telegraph
THE debate over hunting appears to have united readers of The Times and The Daily Telegraph in to a pro-fox stance over the weekend.
The establishments traditional notice-board in The Times comes down firmly behind the fox, judging by its letters column today (Monday).
More surprisingly, the usually fiercely loyal pro-hunt “Torygraph” also prints a letter in defence of the fox.
The writer argues foxes have a natural form of birth control which regulates their breeding according to the amount of food available in their territory.
Farmers would not need to kill foxes if they kept their stock secure, the writer suggests.
Meanwhile, The Guardian reports that Sir John Mortimer has received death threats, hate mail and razor blades from animal rights campaigners because of his defence of hunting.
Ex-Labour minister and now party grandee Roy Hattersley uses his weekly column in the same newspaper to pen an anti-hunting argument.
