Fruit farms ordered to stop bird cull
BULLFINCHES have been given greater protection from the annual cull run by fruit farmers.
Elliot Morley, the countryside minister, has ordered a curb on the slaughter.
Kent growers used to be given an exemption from wildlife laws protecting the birds. But the bullfinch population has fallen rapidly in recent years.
Those in Kent who want to control the birds will have to apply for individual licences.
