FSA will be envy of the world — Rooker

BRITAINS Food Standards Agency will one day be envied by countries all over the world, reckons food safety minister Jeff Rooker.
Speaking at Agra Europes FSA conference in London today (Thursday), Mr Rooker said although the agency would be consumer-focused, it would not be allowed to “denigrate or undermine British producers”.
Mr Rooker also made no apologises for the FSA White Paper being “vague” about the issue of funding. He said the paper was designed to be a consultation document, and that was why there was nothing concrete in it about how much industry would be expected to pay.
He said further information on the agencys costing structure would be released in June when the FSAs draft bill goes before Parliament. The agency was still on target to be launched by the end of 1999, he said.
