Fuel protesters renew blockades
By FWi staff
FUEL protesters have blockaded oil depots in three parts of the country and succeeded in turning back tankers in renewed action against petrol prices.
Around 30 protesters persuaded drivers not to enter the Manchester Fuels Terminal at Trafford Park, Greater Manchester, reports the Ananova website.
There have also been demonstrations outside oil depots at Jarrow on Tyneside and Fawley, in Hampshire.
Around 12 protesters in Jarrow are reportedly led by north-east farmer and haulier Andrew Spence, who led the November fuel convoy protest to London,
In Manchester, blockade leader Paul Ashley told Ananova that short spontaneous guerrilla-style protests were planned at fuel depots across the country.
He vowed to continue action until the Government acted on the price of fuel.
Although fuel prices have been cut in recent days, retailers have been criticised for not making cuts earlier after crude-oil prices plummeted.
Monmouthshire farmer David Handley, who led fuel protests last year, was voted Farm Personality of the Year 2000 by FARMERS WEEKLY readers and FWi users.
