GM allowance in new labelling rules
GOVERNMENT has announced new labelling regulations requiring catering suppliers to label all products containing genetically modified soya and maize.
The labelling will come into force on April 10 in all member states and was announced by food minister Baroness Hayman last week. Crucially the rules will allow "non-GM material" accidentally contaminated with GM material up to a 1% threshold not to carry the labels.
The regulations will also require foods containing additives and flavourings from GM sources to be labelled. *
