GM food fails medical

A REPORT due this week from the British Medical Association is expected to voice concern over genetically modified (GM) foods.

The report is expected to urge a delay in the commercial growing of GM crops in Britain until detailed research into the risks to health and the environment are carried out.

It wants more work done on the possible toxicity of GM crops and further investigation into fears that they will lead to new allergies and resistance to antibodies.

More trials should be carried out, more independent scientists should be involved and tests should be made public, says the report, The Impact of Genetic Modification on Agriculture and Health, produced by the BMAs board of science and education.
