GM maize found in ‘organic’ food
A HEALTH food company has been forced to withdraw thousands of packets of organic tortilla chips after they were found to contain genetically modified maize.
US manufacturer Terra Prima has destroyed 87,000 packets of tortilla crisps after discovering the maize used to make the chips contained the genes from GM maize plants.
The company traced the source to conventional maize grown on a farm in Texas which, it believes, cross-pollinated with a nearby GM variety.
