GM pork sausages ’taste good’
By FWi staff
A GROUP of people who ate pork from carcasses taken from a US university have become the first people known to have eaten genetically modified meat.
Prosecutors are investigating the theft of three experimental transgenic pig carcasses from the University of Florida, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Unaware of the source, a butcher made the meat into sausages, and a woman who ate some said they tasted real good.
A copy of the rhodopsin gene, which is involved in eye function, was being carried by the pig, reports New Scientist magazine.
Food from GM animals is banned from the food chain.
