Grain market update

Tuesdays trading – 16 September 1997

THE UK wheat market again lacked fresh input on FOB, with the market resisting Sterlings attempts to test lows. The interior market was still looking for spot wheat with values on feed/biscuit between £80 and £90/t ex-farm, depending on quality and location. Class 1 milling remains firm at £106-110 ex-farm, depending on quality and location.

Chicago closed higher on a return to dry weather in parts of Australias wheat-growing region, with renewed talk about the El Niño weather system cited.

  • £1=DM 2.823 / FFr 9.480 / $ 1.598
  • French FOB spot wheat value: FFr875.00 (£ 92.29)
  • Chicago December wheat at close: $ 3.72 (£ 83.80)
  • Prices at yesterdays wheat futures close:
