Grain market update

Grain market update

Thursdays trading – 19 February 1998

THE EU granted the following restitutions to non-EU countries:

  • Wheat: 220,500 t at Ecu18.97
  • Barley: 41,500 t at Ecu30.97
  • Oats: 42,000 t at Ecu32.80 (from Finland and Sweden)

Tunisia bought 75,000 t of wheat, 50,000 t of it from France.

UK OSR prices remain firm, with some export business done and little left on farms. Interestingly, the UK crusher seems not to be buying old crop because prices are now too high.

  • £1=DM 2.975 / FFr 9.97 / $ 1.638
  • French FOB spot wheat value: FFr 827.50 (£ 80.49)
  • Chicago December wheat at close: $ 3.225 (£ 70.87)
